CDROM / Dynamic
Web:
CDROMs and animated/dynamic web sites are usually developed
utilizing the same software and scripting techniqes,
however Developing a CDROM is very different from developing
a web site. When a developer is considering content
for a CDROM there are more options available in terms
of the quality and quantity of the media, be it video,
audio or applications; the reason for this is file size.
A high definition video with CD quality stereo sound
is a large file size and not a good idea when planning
for a web site because most viewers do not have a fast
enough internet connection to handle high definition
media. For web considerations the media is "compressed"
which often reduces the image size and sound quality.
This allows for faster downloads over slower internet
connections. CDROMS have a limited amount of information
they can hold but the quality of that information is
generally higher and the file size is only limited by
the available memory and processor speed of the viewers
computer and the amount of information that the delivery
medium (CDROM) can hold.
The industry standards for CDROM and dynamic
web development today are all Macromedia products, they
are: Flash, Director and Authorware. Flash is usually
used more often in dynamic web development because it
creates animations that are low file size. It should
be stated however that although Flash has been used
more often for web
